Have a Ball Camping This Fall at Mark Twain Lake Jellystone Park™
Another fantastic season has arrived at Mark Twain Lake Jellystone Park™. Camping this fall means cooler temperatures and our favorite holiday to celebrate…Halloween! October 15 – 17th is the final weekend to partake in our Halloween Spooktacular Weekend festivities! It will be the fifth weekend in a row of fun and plenty of scares!
Join us for arts and crafts and activities, pumpkin carving, costume contest, and a campsite/cabin decorating contest! Our campers are known for competitive decorating, outdoor cooking, and having a good time. Prizes will be awarded first-fifth place in campsite/cabin contests. Plus, don’t forget candy for trick or treaters.
What’s Halloween Without Jack-o-Lanterns!
As part of the Spooktacular activities, campers can join in on pumpkin carving! The following tips may shed some light on the experience, from emptying out the guts to creating the most striking, unique designs!
Tip #1:
Instead of cutting open the top of the pumpkin around the stem, cut open the bottom. When you open from the bottom, most of the seeds and guts come out with it. Half your job of cleaning out the pumpkin is already done!
Tip #2:
While folks traditionally cut all the way through the pumpkin to create their jack-o-lantern, consider scraping away just enough of the outer shell to let the light glow through.
Tip #3:
Use battery-powered LED tea lights or Christmas lights to light up your masterpiece.
Tip #4:
If you don’t want to fuss with sharp tools, especially around the little ones, use items like glitter, stickers, and water-based paint such as acrylic or tempera paint to decorate.
Tip #5:
Don’t throw out those pumpkin seeds. Make Roasted Pumpkin Seeds in your RV or cabin oven with this easy recipe.
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- After thoroughly washing your pumpkin seeds, toss the seeds in a bowl with oil and salt.
- Spread the seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown. (Stir them a couple of times during the baking process.)
- Serve warm.
